CF3 NEWSLETTER 1

With Christmas and the New Year only days away, I thought it would be appropriate to bring all our members up to date with what’s been going on in the world of classic Formula 3:-

[1] Calendar 2012

If you go to the HSCC website www.hscc.org.uk you will find the HSCC calendar for 2012. Our races will be part of the same meetings that we were at in 2011. We are yet to finalise the length of the races, but I am hoping that Graham White and the HSCC will have listened to our pleas and given us 20 minutes races at all events. Factored into the calendar must be the Monaco Historic Grand Prix formula 3 race to be held on the 10th & 11th May, which many of you may enter.

[2] Euro Series

We have been in discussion with the organisers of the French Formula 3 series and you will see from their calendar www.f3classic.com that they are proposing a 4-round Euro series, which incorporates our round at Brands Hatch at the beginning of July. I believe that ultimately, running a Euro series involving ourselves and the French and maybe some Italians and Germans, is an excellent idea for classic formula 3. This year is a bit too early, as our prime objective is to get our UK members filling the grids. Once we have achieved this, then combining with the French in what could possibly be a 5 or 6 round Euro series in a year or two’s time, could be an exciting proposition. It will take time to develop these ideas with Bernard Honnorat of the French Series, so please bear with us for the time being, but give us your support by putting your car on our grids.

[3] CF3 Rules 2012

At the meeting we held at Silverstone some weeks back, certain changes to the CF3 rules were proposed and a draft copy of the amended technical regulations are available on the HSCC website www.hscc.org.uk under Championships Tech Regs. Please have a look and if you think we have missed anything, please come back with your suggestions and ideas.

[4] AUTOSPORT SHOW 12th & 15th January 2012 at NEC

The HSCC have been invited to organise a “60 years of Formula 3” display at the AutoSport Show. Graeme White is currently putting together 6 cars that will represent Formula 3 from the 500cc era to the current day. On Friday 13th January @ 11:30 am, he is hoping that there will be 10-15 drivers who have represented the various categories of formula 3 over the past 60 years, and our own Richard Trott will be there amongst others. Please come to the show and if you are able to assist on the HSCC stand on either Saturday or Sunday, then please let us know and we shall arrange tickets for you.

[5] Where are the cars?

Richard Trott and Andy Jones (1600cc) volunteered at our drivers meeting to ring around as many people as they possibly could to obtain the correct contact details and to discover where many classic formula 3 cars are residing. They have completed their task and our database is enhanced as a result.

If you know of people who own classic formula 3 cars and who aren’t in contacts with the Association, please get in touch and forward this e-mail to them and let us know so that we can keep them posted of classic formula 3 matters in the future.

[6] 2012 Participants

I am pleased to say that we have already heard of newcomers to classic formula 3 in 2012 and who could possibly be runners at the “sharp end”. Unfortunately there seem to be quite a few cars up for sale at the moment, both from the French series and the UK, but they are all good quality cars, which are still reasonably priced. Now is the time to purchase that “really good car” ready for the Euro series to come.

I have heard that Eje Elgh, a front running formula 3 and formula 2 driver of the 70’s/80’s has acquired his “Plastic Padding” Chevron B38 from Alex Ames for Monaco. Apparently he may not be the only famous name obtaining a car to race at Monaco.

[7] Paddock Parking

Still under discussion with FF2000, but it will work when it comes.

Classic Formula 3 still represents phenomenal value for money, so get your friends involved and get them out in a car for 2012.

We will continue to send you newsletters during the next 12 months via e-mail, but we want to get you used to tuning into the website to find out all the latest information. It is obviously a dual task for us to produce a newsletter and keep the website up to date, so please co-operate by checking our Classic Formula 3 website on a regular basis www.classicf3.org.uk and the HSCC website at www.hscc.org.uk for information relating to our formula and our meetings.

The team at Classic Formula 3, myself, Richard Ranson and Colin Painter wish you all a Happy Christmas and look forward to some great racing in 2012.

Regards

Hugh Price
